Coffee May Help Keep Your Liver Healthy.
Coffee may help keep your liver healthy.
As you all know I love coffee. Waking up and grinding the coffee beans, ready to sit down with my wife and enjoy the morning. I justify this routine because of the health benefits of coffee and some new studies are adding more evidence for my addiction.
Coffee has been linked to lower rates of liver disease and a new study has shown it can also help in people who suffer with Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The major cause of liver disease has been excessive alcohol consumption and hepatitis, however non-alcoholic fatty liver is becoming increasingly prevalent. It is thought the link between obesity and insulin resistance is the major driving force in this trend.
It is now thought that nonalcoholic fatty liver is the leading cause of liver disease. The results published in the February issue of Hepatology, showed that increased coffee intake, among people with Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease decreased the risk of hepatic fibrosis.
The issue is that 10 to 15% of people with nonalcoholic liver disease will go on to develop cirrhosis of the liver.
The researchers found that those who consumed around 2 to 3 cups of coffee had less severe liver disease than those with a minimal coffee consumption.
So if you are like myself and love a coffee in the morning, enjoy!
