Dairy v. Soy
From a nutrient perspective Dairy foods are on top. Considering the vitamins, minerals and quality of protein, dairy is in front by a nose. Soy foods are not a natural source of calcium and this is added to soy drinks.
Dairy foods also contain Vitamin D and other fat soluble vitamins that you won’t find in soy. Soy foods are not as high in zinc and magnesium; however they are a source of iron. Recent studies are showing that dairy foods may also help with weight loss and reduce the risk of diabetes.
What Soy foods lack in calcium and zinc, they make up for with isoflavones. Isoflavones are protective against heart disease and may also protect us from certain cancers like prostate and breast cancer.
With the range of great tasting soy foods available today why not have the best of both worlds. You can have a skinny latte with breakfast, a soy smoothie with lunch and some yoghurt for dessert.
