Algae Advances Weight Loss
Algae advances weight loss
Researchers at the Faculty of Life Sciences (LIFE) at the University of Copenhagen found that fibre from brown algae promote a feeling of fullness which help us eat less and lose weight.
We have known for a long time that a high fibre diet can help with weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight. The type of fibre from brown algae called 'alginates', are great to promote a feeling of fullness in the stomach.
The researchers compared the amount of food people ate after having a drink that contain fibre from algae with those who consumed the drink without fibre. They found that the average weight loss was 1.7kg greater when taking the drink compared with placebo.
Whilst this research helps to better understand the role of fibre in weight loss, I don't think that the information tells a great deal of new information. We have known for a long time that fibre helps us feel full and drinking water before meals can reduce the amount of food eaten at a meal.
Do you need to use alage to lose weight? Probably not, however there are some important lessons from the study. Increase your intake of fibre and drink more water, preferably before meals.
